CONGRESS SUMMARY
The Fourteenth International Congress of Maritime Arbitrators will be held in New York City from October 21 to 26, 2001 at the world-famous Waldorf=Astoria Hotel on Park Avenue. The Society of Maritime Arbitrators, Inc., New York, as your host, welcomes you and your companion to this event. This website contains all Congress information covering the program, accommodations, social activities, companion program, costs, registration and other relevant information. The website contains all the information in this brochure, allows you the option to register for the Congress online, and make hotel and airline reservations online. 

This year's Congress will primarily concentrate on issues which have arisen in the field of maritime arbitration since our last Congress in Auckland in 1999, but will also be open to papers containing other thoughts, ideas or experiences.

Early-Bird Registration Fees:
Delegates U.S. $1,650 per person
Accompanying Persons U.S. $550 per person

Payment and registration form should be received before October 12, 2001. All registrations after October 12, 2001 are based on availability and must be submitted online by clicking here. On-site registrants will be charged $150 for on-site processing.

    Payment or proof of payment must be included or attached to the registration form. Checks are payable to the Society of Maritime Arbitrators, Inc. Refer to Section VIII of the registration form for details concerning payment with a check, credit card or bank transfer. 


  • Upon approval and processing of your registration form, you will receive a confirmation showing the payments received and all events reserved. 

    Substitution:
    In the event that registrants are unable to attend, substitutes may be named without additional charge.

    Confirmation and Acceptance:
    A confirmation letter will be sent to you within (7) seven days of  approval of your registration application and payment. If an e-mail address is included, the confirmation will be e-mailed. 

    Changes, Refunds and Cancellation 
    Requests for changes, refunds and cancellation must be made in writing and mailed or faxed to Registrar/ICMA XIV. Name changes may be made before or during the Congress. 

    A refund, less a $100.00 fee for each registrant and/or guest, will be granted upon written requests received (postmarked/faxed) by Registrar/ICMA XIV prior to September 8, 2001.  A refund, less a $150.00 fee for each registrant and/or guest, will be granted upon written requests received (postmarked/faxed) by Registrar/ ICMA XIV prior to October 14, 2001. 

    No refunds will be granted after October 14, 2001.

    Hardship Policy
    Any person who has a genuine financial hardship may apply in writing explaining the basis of his/her hardship, and if apparent may receive a discount in the registration fee depending upon the circumstances.     CLE Credit
    The Maritime Law Association of the United States, which has been certified by the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board as an Accredited Provider of continuing legal education in the State of New York for the period April 3, 2000 to April 3, 2003, will issue CLE credits to New York attorneys who attend the Congress. It is estimated that approximately 20 CLE credits (at 50 minutes per hour) will be issued to attorney attendees at the Congress. Attorneys from states other than New York may be entitled to CLE credits for attending the Congress if their states grant reciprocity for CLE courses presented by Accredited Providers in New York.

    Attorneys in attendance who wish to receive CLE credits must check in at the registration and information desk where certificates of attendance forms and course evaluation surveys will be available at the final session. The Certificates of Attendance will be mailed shortly after the Congress. Full details of the documentation needed to obtain the requisite certificates may be obtained at the Registration and Information Desk.
