Born into ship and yacht building family. Entered marine industry after serving apprenticeship in family shipyards and receiving higher education. Commenced career with design consultants and proceeded to construction and repair supervision, vessel operations, shipyard management and independent consultancy.

Offering over 45 years of continuous professional marine experience. Directed both small and large groups of technical and non-technical backgrounds. Supervised and performed quite complex and diverse array of assignments including most all types of vessels in many of the world's shipyards and ports.

  • Preliminary design of 283 FEU reefer containership with two gantry cranes for United Brands, Inc., for construction in Greece,
  • Preliminary design of 25,000 dwt self-unloading bulker for MTL in Spain,
  • Negotiation, design, plan approval and inspection assistance for 4 x 1,000 TEU containership newbuildings at Imari, Japan for ITEL/Seatrain,
  • Contract design of conversion of 36,000 dwt tanker to RO/RO ship,
  • Numerous grain stability books and loading manuals, Plan approval of 45,000 dwt chemical carriers "OGDEN DYNACHEM" & "HUDSON'

1972-1973 - American Bulk Carriers, Inc., NY, Technical Director
Dealt with all technical problems in fleet of four tankers and four bulk carriers.

  • Assisted in design of conversion of 44,000 dwt tanker "ATLANTIC" to 52,000 dwt tanker in Eleusis, Greece and managed project from NY,
  • Negotiated contracts for 2 x 125,000 dwt tankers at Valmet, Finland,
  • Surveyed 24,000 dwt wood chip carrier S.S."YUHO MARU" and converted to 34,000 dwt bulk carrier "YUKONMART" whilst sailing.

1971-1972 - Astilleros Espanoles, S.A., Cadiz, Spain - Technical Counselor
Dealt with design of new $80 million ship factory, together with selected team, built at Puerto Real with Europe's largest building dock (100 m x 525 m) with two 600 t (85 m hook height) gantry tandem cranes. Assisted design team with prototype 350,000 dwt VLCC simultaneously including preparation of P.E.R.T. chart for over 5,000 activities.

1970-1971 - Commonwealth Oil Co., Ponce, P.R., Construction Superintendent
Conversion of S.T."GRAND CORCO" at Wilton-Fijenoord Shipyard, Schiedam, The Netherlands, from 20,000 dwt to 30,000 dwt naptha carrier with new fully coated forebody.

1969-1970 - Men Shipping Co., OY, Helsinki, Finland, Construction Superintendent
Designed, negotiated and supeivised conversion of M.V. "KATRINA" from Baltic tween decker to fully cellular containership of 240 TEU at Malta Drydocks Corp, Malta, G.C.

1969 - American Trading and Production Corp., NY, Port Engineer
Responsible for technical work for fleet of eight U.S. flag tankers.

1966-1968 - American Bulk Carriers, Inc., NY, Naval Architect

  • Converted 17,000 dwt tanker TE/T "MIDLAKE" to 34,000 dwt at Avondale Shipyards, New Orleans, LA employing foreign built forebody,
  • Programmed and supervised ship repair and loading.

1966 - H.M. Tiedemann & Co., Inc., NY, Commercial Manager
to North American Aviation conversion of M.V. "GIANT II" from mine layer/tug to cable layer for sonar signature field off Hawaii. Performed inclining experiment and prepared mission and stability book,

  • Solicited commercial clients and supervised staff of 20.
1964-1966 - American Bulk Carriers, Inc., NY, Naval Architect
  • Designed, negotiated and supervised conversion of tankers S.T. "SATUCKET" and "MONTAUK" to bulk carrier S.S. "RAMBAM" at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. of 24,000 dwt,
  • Designed conversion of tanker TE/S "SABINE" from 18,000 dwt to 34,000 dwt using forebody of Societe Maritime Shell tanker,
  • Supervised ship repairs, loading and inspections.

1963-1964 - M. Rosenblatt & Son, Inc., NY, Senior Project Engineer

  • Supervised detailed design of oceanographic research ships AGOR 9 & 10,
  • Performed plan approval on Mitsubishi 65,000 dwt tankers and Maizuru 42,000 dwt bulk carriers for Maritime Overseas Corp., NY.

1961-1962 - Commerce Tankers, Inc., NY, Construction Superintendent
Design and construction of tanker midbody for U.S. flag tanker TE/S "BARBARA" of 25,000 dwt, including plan review and USCG approvals.

1962-1963 - Remolcadores de Malaga, Cadiz, Spain, Naval Architect designed series of 500 HP, 8 ton bollard pull developable hull tugs (2 built).

1959-1961 - John J. McMullen Asoociates, Inc., NY, Project Naval Architect

  • Designed "ELIZABETHPORT" conversions of T3 tankers to cellular container- ships for Pan-Atlantic Steamship Co. (Sea-Land) with midbodies built at Schliekerwerft/Blohm & Voss, Hamburg, Germany,
  • Designed conversion of USN auxiliary aircraft carrier fleet tanker "CIMARRON" class to 34,000 dwt bulk carrier for Isbrandtsen Co.

1956-1959 - J. J. Henry Co., Inc., NY, Naval Architect and Marine Engineer

  • Designed 4 - dragarm, rotating spoil arm 4,000 cu.m.hopper dredge "ICOA" for National Bulk Carriers, Inc., NY,
  • Performed plan approval on "EXPORT AMBASSADOR" class cargo ships for American Export Lines, Inc., NY,
  • Performed structural design of conversion of "MARINER" class cargo ship to passenger ship for American Banner Lines (Arnold Bernstein), NY, SS "Atlantic"
  • Performed detailed cost analysis of C4 class cargo vessel in Germany for Committee of American Steamship Lines for subsidy determination,
  • Designed series of 36,000 dwt tankers for Ingalls, Taiwan Shipyard.
